Dance Studios You Should Know about in 2017

We wanted to do a round-up of some of the great dance studios around the US and Canada (and a few beyond) doing excellent work in promoting the art and fun of dancing. This was such a difficult task because there are so many good ones out there, but here are a few great studios in various areas that stood out to us!

1. Heart of Dance, MN

Heart of Dance was cofounded by Andrea Mirenda and Ember Reichgott Junge with the mission of enhancing the lives of individuals of all ages with ballroom dancing. In the process they transform the lives of their students.

Andrea and Ember write about the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of dancing - particularly dancing in a group setting. It is empowering to see that there are studios like Heart of Dance who care not about their bottom line but about enriching their students.

2. POWER OF DANCE, WI.

In 2007, POD became a reality for Theresa Kubalak and Elizabeth Powers. POD prides itself on providing unique classes that expand the nature of dance.

POD has over 430 students and 150 dancers in the All Star competitive Program. POD looks to improve skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance.

3. ROLAND'S DANCE STUDIO, NC.

Established in 1962, Roland is the largest independent ballroom and social dance studio in the East. Located in Fayetteville, Roland has helped to foster many levels of dancers.

Roland concentrates on Ballroom, Salsa, Shag, Swing, and Argentine Tango. All lessons are administered by professionals and our calendar is constantly holding exciting events.

4. PURE MOTION DANCE, CANADA.

Since 2008, Pure Motion Dance in Calgary has been a leader in dance. Under the tutelage of their instructors, students are emerged in a program to develop their abilities.

Our Bridlewood and Walden studios have triple sprung dance floors, professional ballet barres, mirrored walls, and a sound system. We can track our students, helping their progress. Roland has a homework bar and a food preparation area for dancers.

5. BOOGIE DOWN, ONTARIO.
Emma Schellenberg started Boogie Down after performing with various names like MIA, Lenny Kravitz, Hedley, and Martin Short. The instructors are still performing artists.

The energy here is very robust. Classes open a new frontier allowing a student to follow their path to excell as a performer.

6. DANCE HOUSTON, TX.

Hosted by the Houston Swing Dance Society in 2003, Dance Houston was a workshop called Lindyfest. The VP, Andrea Cody, invited every dance company in the yellow pages to perform with their group, The Houston Hepcats.

March 15, the festival had thirteen dance companies performing at the Virginia Stuller Tatham Fine Arts Building. The event became an annual giving roots to Dance Houston.

7. ARTHUR MURRAY DANCE STUDIO, VANCOUVER, BC.

Barbara and Brent began with the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Saskatchewan, and later started a studio in Vancouver. In 2004, they opened a studio in Coquitlam.

Eventually, they ranked as one of the top studios offered by the Arthur Murray Dance Studios. The history of this studio is seen in their dedication to the art.

8. GRUPO FOLKLORICO, LOS LAURELES, CA.

In 2007 in Los Laureles, CA, Cesar Gonzalez and Ashley Lopez-Gonzalez with family members learned traditional Mexican dances. 2007, Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana began and now has 10 classes with all ages.

They have performed for The Oakland Raiders, The San Francisco Giants, and others. The studio has two recitals showcasing Mexican culture and a variety of talent.

9. ASHLAND REGIONAL BALLET, OH

The Opes II Dance Studio, the Official school of the Ashland Regional Ballet, focuses on ballet techniques. The studio prepares a student for on-stage performances through meaningful preparation.

Students are taught various techniques, applying their skills to everyday life. By initiating creative problem solving, it promotes a person to become a well-established dancer.

10. MAIN ST DANCE, ONTARIO.

Students at MSD are committed to the profession through skill development. The idea is to encourage students to become inspiring dancers.

Success is measured in teamwork between the studio and our families. Our educational program targets community service through local and international opportunities.

11. LOURD VIJAY'S DANCE STUDIO, BANGALORE.
In 1998, LVDS was created by Lourd Vijay in India to inspire dancers with a new spirit of perfection. He has used the experiences of his career to take dance to new levels.

Focusing on the young, he has been able to shape Indian-western Dance. LVDS is associated with The Indian Society for Performers and Teachers of Dance as well as the Karnataka Dancesport Association.

12. DANCE EXPRESSIONS UNLIMITED, MA.
Located in Tyngsboro, Dance Expressions Unlimited is a school that uses core values to implement teaching. Progress, growth, and character are but a few of these criteria to help mold a student.

With a well-structured environment and well-trained teachers, students learn in a nuturing and stimulating setting. We provide an experience that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

13. DELHI DANCE ACADEMY, DELHI.
Shree Bhupinder started DDA in 2008 with teaching dance with affordable prices. This studio concentrates on the educational infrastructure of dance.

This studio has been featured on Lifestyle TV channels and in newspapers. DDA was given "The Best Dance Academy in Delhi" and it was awarded the "Certificate of Excellence" by TripAdvisor.com

14. PMT DANCE COMPANY, NY.
Founded by Pavan M. Thimmaiah, this studio has performed locally and internationally. The studio uses elements of Hip-Hop, Funk, Contemporary and Jazz.

They have performed at the International Bollywood Movie Awards, the Trump Taj Mahal, and the International Dance Festival. PMT holds the record for the World’s Largest Street Dance and has been featured on the Today Show.

15. STUDIO 6 BALLROOM, WA.

This studio was created in Tacoma as a community place. Focusing on many venues, this location was built as a place to bring people together.

With restaurants, live music, clubs, and more, it is a hot spot for the area. The studio receives support from the community, allowing it to always change and grow.

16. HUMPHERYS, AUS

This studio started in Victoria Park in 1967 and has been teaching Perth to Dance for 50 years. This school is considered to be one of Australia's most highly respected.

This studio teaches all styles including Latin, Ballroom, Salsa, and more. Principals Len Humphreys OAM and Glen & Debbie Anne Tierney are highly respected dance professionals providing the best in teaching.

17. 3RD STREET DANCE, CA

Located in LA, this studio has been teaching dance for over 35 years. With a comprehensive program, all styles and age groups are taught the dynamics of social dancing.

Dance curriculum includes Ballroom, Argentine Tango, Swing, Salsa, Cumbia, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Ballet and more. This studio has also been featured on shows such as Dancing with The Stars, Dance Moms, MTV, and VH1

18. DEFY GRAVITY, RICHMOND, BC

DGD provides excellent teaching with a fun, nurturing, and challenging environment. DGD provides a complete well-rounded education for the students.

Classes are offered in Jazz, Contemporary, Cecchetti Ballet, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Modern Improv, Tap, Musical Theatre and Acro. DGD offers Exam and Competitive classes and Pre-Professional.
